Hello! Welcome To The Unwaste Shop.
We're so glad you're here! The Unwaste Shop opened as a pop-up shop in 2021 and with a desire to continue our mission permanently, we set our sights on the West Loop for our first brick and mortar location! The Unwaste Shop in the West Loop in 2022 with the goal of making sustainable living more accessible for the Chicago community. Since then, we've seen how small swaps like refilling dish soap or switching to reusable essentials can have a meaningful impact on the planet.
Thanks to the incredible support from our customers and neighbors, our zero-waste community has continued to grow. We’re excited to announce a second location in Beverly, bringing even more opportunities for Chicagoans to live sustainably and reduce waste in their everyday routines.

West Loop Refill Station: How It Works
Choose your container
Bring a clean container from home or purchase one in-store to reuse again and again. Any container works, including glass, aluminum, or plastic as long as it's clean and ready to refill!
Weigh your container
Before you fill up, place your container on the scale and note the weight. You can jot it down with a washable marker or snap a quick photo. This ensures you’re only charged for the product inside, not the container itself.
Fill it up
Now for the fun part! Fill your container with as much or as little as you need. Choose from everyday essentials like liquid shampoo, dish soap, multi-purpose cleaner, laundry detergent, and more, all available at our refill station.
Checkout
When you’re ready, we’ll weigh your filled container and charge you by the ounce. It’s that simple! Come back anytime to top off your favorites and keep your routine low-waste.

Do you offer in-store pickup?
Answer: Yes, we do! Choose in-store pick up at checkout and your order will typically be ready for you within 2 business hours. -
Do you offer refills at the West Loop location?
Answer: Yes! Bring your clean, empty containers and refill household cleaners, soaps, and other essentials. We charge by the ounce so please make sure to weigh your container prior to filling up. -
Do you accept returns?
Answer: Due to the nature of our products, and the fact that many come unpackaged, we do not accept returns or exchanges. Please see our refund policy for a full explanation here. -
What is a zero waste store?
Answer: A zero waste store is a store that promotes reducing waste, purchasing just what you need and reusing what you have! Most of the items sold are plastic free or with zero packaging, which means you don't have to throw very much away- hence the name zero waste! For example, every time you buy a roll of conventional paper towels at the store, the paper towels come packaged in plastic film. When you open your paper towels, that plastic film gets thrown in the trash. So many of the things we currently buy are contributing to our plastic problem and our landfill problem. All of the amazing brands in our store are trying to change that!
