Soap made with synthetic ingredients
Kitchen Witch: This soap honors the work done in the kitchen, with preparing food and medicine. A Kitchen Witch is a name for those that create folk medicines from their home garden, as well as the Scandinavian custom of keeping a witch doll in the kitchen to protect the home. This soap is colored with citrus peels and ground lemon balm leaves that also provide a gentle exfoliant. Smells like: an herby-citrus blend of Lemongrass, Lemonbalm, and Lemon This soap is great for: Citrus scents are freshening which is why they are so popular to neutralize cooking smells, but this soap can be used anywhere for any occasion because citrus smells are refreshing and uplifting, helping boost moods.
Daybreak: Feels like making coffee over a morning campfire in the woods, before starting your journey at dawn. The scent of cedarwood and smoke blend with detoxifying red clay and coffee grounds to scrub and exfoliate dry skin, reducing acne and breakouts. This soap is great for: detoxifying and cleansing without losing that just-woke-up-by-the-campfire smell. Cold process soap made with a vegan, palm-oil free base of olive oil and coconut oil.
Ancient Earth: Caves are a metaphor for the subconscious, an ancient sacred space for transformation rituals, and protection from both elements and predators. This soap is colored with abundantly available, gently exfoliating red clay powder that balances our skin’s oils, with patchouli leaves, loofa gourd fibers and vetiver root oil. It feels like being cradled underground and enveloped by the earth, thinking about our ancestors. This soap is great for: resetting your baseline, connecting with ancestors, focusing intentions.
Occult Bookstore: Swirls of detoxifying ground charcoal and ghassol clay, fragranced with dragon’s blood resin and topped with natural glittery flakes of mica stone that were originally gathered on my hikes. Evokes the feeling of tapping into the mystery of an occult bookstore when carving out your identity as a youth.
Rite of Spring: Pina Bauch’s interpretation of Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring opens with dancers crawling out of the darkness, through dirt. Their white dresses and bodies become filthy as they rise and intertwine ecstatically. The intensity mimics the force that pushes life through the frozen ground. This soap interpretation of the Rite of Spring is a nod to ritualistic transformation – dancing herself to death and the cathartic rebirth of springtime, featuring skin healing herbs grown in my garden. This soap is great for: soothing rough, chapped winter hands with olive oil infused with healing gentle flowers of calendula and chamomile with comfrey leaves.
Keep soap on a well draining dish to allow it to dry between uses and to ensure a long shelf life.

Roots & Sky’s natural soap and self-care line grew from Lisa Krause’s Baltimore-based ecological design/build gardening company that was built on sharing her lifelong love and practice of self-sufficiency, sustainability, ecological design, folk-herbalism and ethnobotany. Almost every variety is crafted with herbs, flowers and other ingredients grown in her own medicine gardens. Most ingredients are certified organic. These blends were created to evoke experiences and honor rituals and practices that she has found inspiring in her own journey in relationship to plants, and she is excited to share the meaning and intention behind each of the soap varieties she creates in small batches in her West Town kitchen!
